When we put on track one, side one it was to be a moment that would stay embedded in my memory forever. I can still vividly recall one night in 1979 when I was given this album as gift from my father. This album is just a classic in my opinion.I recorded Jungle for a mixed cd at the time and my buddies phoned me in the middle of the night asking who is this? laughing and just enjoying some great ELO!! If youre an ELO fan, you want this version of this album. One record exec reviewed the album as saying that every track bar one could have been released as a single and no-one will agree on which track that one is! Even the bonuses sound like they belong they dont have the quality of demos, they sound like fully realized tracks in their own right. This is the Electric Light Orchestra at their very best. another album reminder is works volume 1. the concerto for a rainy day: wow! dreamy and hypnotic, the strings, synths, sound effects, overdubbed harmonies and bombast make this the best since the whole eldorado album.
all the others follow in the same vein as new world record. just like that album came four singles turn to stone, sweet talkin woman, wild west hero and mr blue sky. kinda reminds me of another pop double album: goodbye yellow brick road. The perfect synthesis of rock and classical This is an absolute master piece for the true ELO fan and the last album before they begin experimenting with a more Top 40 type of sound Though the artwork is what captured me back in 1977, the music is timeless. I had always wanted this album since I was about 10 years old.
